The CCED Welcomes Two Summer Interns

The Clayton County Energy District is excited to host two Summer Interns for 2020!

Jake Jansen is completing his CCED Summer Internship as the Project Specialist. In this position, he will be leading the Free LED Delivery Program and mapping solar in the county.

Jake graduated from Loras College (Dubuque) this past Spring with a double major in Politics and Sociology and a double minor in Catholic Studies and Peace & Justice. Throughout his liberal arts education, environmental justice was also an emphasis and he made sure to pursue environmental-related internships, jobs and student positions.

In August, Jake plans to move to Milwaukee to pursue a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Peacebuilding at the University of Wisconsin. Jake says, “I was drawn to this program because it builds on my undergraduate coursework, and it also teaches skills to be an effective and sustainable community change maker.” He wants to remain a climate justice activist, keeping his passions around helping build sustainable communities while advocating for system level changes.

Jake is from Elkader and he wanted to be of service to his community in wake of COVID-19. He says,

Clayton County will always be my home, and I wanted to find a way to give back. Though, during a period of social distancing, the ability to serve can sometimes be complicated. My passions align perfectly with the CCED’s mission, so it definitely was a gift the nonprofit had available work for a summer intern. A lot of previous work experience has focused on things like research, social media, or event planning. This summer, I’ve enjoyed somewhat of a change of pace being the environmental “boots on the ground.”

Alyssa Corkery is completing her CCED Summer Internship as the Cool Congregations Specialist. She will be starting her Senior year at Loras College (Dubuque) and is majoring in Sociology and Religious Studies & Theology with minors in Peace & Justice, Catholic Studies and International Studies. Post-graduation, Alyssa plans to go into advocacy and justice-oriented non-profits. Most importantly, she is passionate about a lot of social justice issues. She will be working with Clayton County congregations to reduce their carbon footprint and be utilizing “Cool Congregations” through Interfaith Power & Light. Alyssa says,

I am most excited to work with congregations to help them reduce their carbon footprint for the sake of our planet, but also because it will help them save money that can be redirected to best serve their communities and those in need.

We are excited to host both talented and passionate individuals and cannot wait to see the impacts they make over the course of the summer!
