Air Source Heat Pump Contractor Workshop Held in Waukon to Expand Access in Northeast Iowa

Clean energy technology continues gaining momentum as the federal and state governments establish new incentives for the transition. Solar energy is more affordable than ever and heat pump technology has risen in popularity with the recent opportunities for tax credits and grants. Public interest, growing popularity, and federal support of clean energy technology represents a promising start in the direction toward a clean energy transition. As this field develops, the interest in product must be matched with trained professionals who can accurately and efficiently install these technologies, especially in rural areas.

In an effort to expand access to quality heat pump installation in Northeast Iowa, the Allamakee and Clayton County Energy Districts hosted an air source heat pump training session for contractors interested in the technology. They partnered with the Midwest Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) Collaborative and Slipstream to provide a comprehensive overview. Besides the hosts and presenters, several area contractors, local utility representatives, and incentive organizations were in attendance. Contractors learned more on how to correctly size systems, the value of explaining how heat pumps work, marketing the technology, and the currently available and upcoming incentives.

With federal tax credits for electrification at up to 30% of the system cost (capped at $2,000 for heat pumps), utility rebates, and upcoming state rebates available for clean energy technology, demand will only continue to grow. To meet this demand Clayton County and the rest of Northeast Iowa must have local contractors the community can trust to provide informative and comprehensive customer service. More local installers equals more local wealth retention in Clayton County, providing access to clean energy and supporting businesses right here at home. It’s a win-win and the Energy District looks forward to providing more opportunities in the future for clean energy contractors and customers.
