Keystone AEA, Elkader

The Clayton County Energy District (CCED) will host a free LED Lighting Workshop for farm, business and home owners at the Keystone Area Education Center in Elkader on Saturday, March 18th. The workshop will kick off with a vendor fair followed by a LED lighting workshop featuring local experts who will highlight the benefits of LED lighting fixtures. Attendees will hear about the tremendous potential for energy savings and learn about cost share and rebate programs which ease the transition to LED upgrades in your farm, home and business.
CCED energy planner, Joel Zook will explain Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS)  cost share programs available to Clayton County farmers, for LED lighting transitions.   Utility representatives will share their current LED rebate incentives and the GIA Americorp team will be available to talk about home energy assessments and how Clayton County residents may qualify for free LED bulbs and installations.  A panel of local residents who have made the LED lighting transition will also host a question and answer session.

WHY LED LIGHTING

US Department of Energy on LED Lights:

Residential LEDs — especially ENERGY STAR rated products — use at least 75% less energy, and last 25 times longer, than incandescent lighting.
Widespread use of LED lighting has the greatest potential impact on energy savings in the United States. By 2027, widespread use of LEDs could save about 348 TWh (compared to no LED use) of electricity: This is the equivalent annual electrical output of 44 large electric power plants (1000 megawatts each), and a total savings of more than $30 billion at today’s electricity prices.
