Reining in Alliant: The CEDI Coalition
Jim Martin-Schramm
Policy Analyst, Clean Energy Districts of Iowa
On October 12, 2023, Alliant Energy asked the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) to approve an electric rate increase to be phased in over two years, starting in October 2024 and concluding in October 2025. This is Alliant Energy’s sixth request to increase electric rates since 2004. If approved as proposed, the rate increase will be the largest in the company’s history.
The Clean Energy Districts of Iowa (CEDI) has invited communities in the Alliant Energy service territory to join a CEDI Coalition that has petitioned the IUB to be an official intervenor in Alliant’s rate case, Docket No. RPU-2023-0002.
This webinar will compare Alliant’s current rates to the costs of other electric utilities in the state and the Midwest region. It will also summarize the projected impacts of the rate increase on all ratepayer classes and municipalities. Finally, as the CEDI Coalition Manager, Jim will share information about which communities have officially joined the CEDI Coalition or have filed resolutions at the Iowa Utilities Board opposing the magnitude of Alliant’s proposed electric rate increase.
All members of the public are invited. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
