Clean Energy For Young Library Patrons Recap
This year the Clayton County Energy District received a grant from Clayton County Foundation for the Future for the Clean Energy Education For Younger Clayton County Library Patrons. Jill Stannard led the project, she gave programs at Murphy Helwig Library in Monona, Garnavillo Public Library, and the 5th & 6th grade students at Central Community School.
Students and school aged library patrons were able to experience energy use in multiple ways. Using a portable solar panel, they were able to compare solar to traditional energy sources. They also got a chance to learn about energy efficiency by using an energy wheel to power both an LED and incandescent bulb, and then compare their efficiency.
Along with the hands on experiments the children also received a presentation and had a chance to discuss home energy use and ways to improve home energy efficiency!
