Home Energy Assistance Available Now!

During this COVID-19 Pandemic, there is a moratorium (pause) on utility disconnections through Sunday, May 31st. On March 13, 2020, the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) issued an emergency order, ceasing disconnection of residential utility services due to nonpayment. After the 31st, everyone will again need to pay their energy bills. Fortunately, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LiHEAP) is available for many individuals unable to pay their bill after this time. This is an under subscribed program and millions of dollars will be added through the CARES Act.

Unfortunately, many energy-burdened homes are unaware of LiHEAP. This program is administered by the Communication Action Agencies (Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation) and can be easily applied for here. It is important we share this valuable information during this time to assist individuals with their basic needs!
